  4. The IBM PC implemention of MS-DOS Kermit Version 2.29b runs on the entire
  5. IBM PC family, including the PC, XT, AT, Portable PC, PCjr, and Convertible PC.

  7. On systems like the PCjr with a built-in modem port, Kermit can only be used
  8. on an RS-232 port (usually COM2, rather than COM1).

  10. The IBM PC Kermit diskette is in DOS 2.0, 360K, Double Sided, Double Density
  11. (DS DD) format, containing the following files:

  33. Space does not permit including the assembler source for the Kermit program,
  34. but it can be ordered on magnetic tape from Columbia University, or obtained
  35. over various computer networks or from dialup hosts (but note that Columbia
  36. will always have the most up-to-date set of source files).

  38. The generic version of Kermit may be run on non-IBM (and on IBM-incompatible)
  39. MS-DOS machines for which you do not have a specific Kermit program.  The .BOO
  40. file programs are useful for encoding binary files as printable text (.BOO)
  41. files and decoding them back into their original form, for convenient shipping
  42. over communication lines, networks, or electronic mail.  New versions of Kermit
  43. are often distributed in .BOO format.
